At Bowen, Miclette & Britt, we strongly believe our commitment to the community will assist in building stronger families, help create opportunity, and most importantly, instill an optimistic attitude for less fortunate individuals and families. We look at our involvement as a privilege. We truly care about giving back by supporting those in need. For over 15 years, our staff has been encouraged to contribute to the well-being of our local communities and various worldwide charitable organizations through our charity payroll deduction program. BMB employees have the option to donate a portion of their paycheck for charity and this donation is then matched by the shareholders. A committee representing the different departments within BMB meets regularly to discuss the appropriation of funds, organization of fundraisers as well as involvement in community activities. While a list of some of the groups BMB has supported in the past is shown below, more importantly, the committee reaches out to its own family of employees, if and when, a tragedy occurs to help with specific financial needs that arise.
In addition to the below organizations we are honored to be involved with, Bowen, Miclette & Britt and the Houston Rockets have entered into a partnership aiming to raise awareness and resources to help less fortunate individuals and families. Through this unique partnership we have engaged in sponsoring three events together. The Komen Race for the Cure, Rock Red Night, and the Rockets Run.
Team BMB and the Rockets participate in a number of activities during October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At our annual Concert for the Cure, we raised over $34,000 for the Komen Houston Affiliate. This along with the Race for the Cure and other projects generated a total of $43,790.41, making our team, Team BMB and The Rockets, the third largest fundraiser in Houston. Those dollars will stay in Houston to fund research and provide breast health services for underserved and uninsured women in our community. Our affiliated Florida office, in its first year, raised $3,259.03. Overall, it was an extremely successful year in raising awareness. We will continue to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure in their goal – to end breast cancer forever.
Our “Rock the Red” campaign is set to be in February and will aim to raise resources for the American Heart association. The funds generated from this go toward the American Heart Association's efforts to reduce death caused by cardiovascular disease.
And finally, our “Rockets Run” campaign will be benefiting Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is the largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. The Rockets Run is a great way for supporters to stay in shape while experiencing the thrill of crossing the finish line on the Rockets home court at Toyota Center. The event is scheduled for April.
We have achieved great things in the past and we continue to strive to achieve more with our charitable activities for our employees, our community and support of worldwide organizations.
